So each Sunday, I’ll be writing a blog post that’s a little more light hearted – lets call it “Sunday Funday”. This week, after watching a stream of the 1980’s cult classic Back to the Future, I sat here wondering what would it take to make up 1.21 Gigawats of power… No plutonium? Don’t worry! I taken a look at what it would take to power the iconic DeLorean in 2018.
Firstly, let’s start at the beginning – how much power is 1.21 gigawatts?
A watt is a measure of power and there’s 1 billion watts in a GW. To break this down even more:
1 million watts = 1 megawatt and 1,000 watts = 1 kilowatt. Great Scott!!!!!!
So how much power is 1 Gigawatt?
- 431 utility scale wind turbines
- 100 million LEDS
- 1.3 million horses
- 2,000 Corvettes Z06s
