For those who don’t know, Powerlifting is a weight class sport in which competitors are split into divisions based on how much they weigh.
You cannot compete in any class where you are above the maximum weight and, therefore, cannot compete in any class where you do not make the minimum weight.
Weight classes are below for IPF.
59kg, 66kh, 74kg, 83kg, 93kg, 105kg, 120kg, 120kg+
47kg, 52kg, 57kg, 63kg, 72kg, 84kg, 84kg+
How to pick your weight class
Now, this obviously leads to the question: “How do I select my weight class?”
I don’t think that you can look at the weight classes and then select your weigh class from the list. You want to carry as much muscle as possible while still making weight from the IPF table above. Therefore you need to be relatively lean to maximise competitiveness.
